BUnetID

Your BUnetID is your identification to register for Orientation and classes, access Library resources, log into lab computers, access MyBU, BlackBoard and Sakai, and much more.

HOW DO I GET (activate) MY BUnetID? With your invitation to attend the new student Orientation, you received an account activation letter which includes your BUnetID and your PIN (activation) code.

It is extremely important that you complete the BUnetID account activation process
as soon as you get your activation letter! Why?

When you activate your BUnetID, you will set up a unique password and answer two (2) secret questions for security reasons. Use the Password Guidelines recommended by Bradley University before choosing a password.

ACTIVATE YOUR BUnetID HERE
Important: choose a password that you will be able to remember
and do not share it with anyone!

To learn more about your BUnetID account, visit the Technology HelpDesk Account Management section. Immediately after activating your BUnetID, you should complete the foreWarn process.

foreWarn  provides text messaging alerts in the event of an emergency on campus. New students will not be able to register for classes until the foreWarn process is completed.

Responsible Computing

Protect your computer from viruses, spyware, compromised passwords, etc.  Responsible Computing steps should be completed before you move to campus.  If you do not perform the Responsible Computing steps prior to your move to campus, you will be required to do so when you first connect your computer to the network.

When you perform the Responsible Computing steps, you can download FREE Symantec Norton Antivirus (save $$ and protect your computer at the same time).  Complete all of the Responsible Computing steps to secure your computer.

Most students bring their own computer to campus, but it is not required.   A public lab is available for your use in the Cullom-Davis Library, providing laptop checkout, Windows & Macintosh desktops, printing, scanning, etc.

Bradley Campus Computer Sales has partnered with Dell, Apple and journeyEd Software, providing educational discounts. Visit our website for recommendations, helpful information and links to purchase your computer and discounted software (85% off on software!) online.

Bradley University does not provide long distance telephone service.  We recommend using a long distance calling card or cell phone.

Cable TV?  Bradley does provide cable television service in the residence halls.  Be sure to bring a TV cable to hook up to the jack and don't forget your remote.

Networking

All residence halls are equipped with wired, high speed networking. Wireless networking is not available in dorm rooms at this time. However, wireless access is available in some common areas. If you are picking up a wireless connection from your dorm room, it is not a Bradley provided access point and is not secure.

The Cullom-Davis Library provides wired and wireless access including laptop checkout services. Windows-based laptop computers are available for 4-hour check-out to Bradley students from the Reserves Desk. Bradley students are required to have a valid Bradley ID to use lab computers or to check out a laptop. Laptop equipment can only be used within the library building and is available on a first come first served basis. A $0.25 per minute late fee is assessed for the late return of a laptop. Phone: 309-677-3315.

Bradley is planning to expand the wireless network in residence halls in the future. If you choose to use the wireless network in the common areas, your computer should be set up to access secure wireless networking through Aeris. When you enter our wireless network for the first time you should choose the secure wireless option and follow the instructions for the initial, one time set-up.  Campus wireless locations and proposed installations can be found here.

FAQ's

I ALREADY HAVE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE ON MY COMPUTER. DO I HAVE TO INSTALL NORTON PROVIDED BY BU?

You can use any Anti-Virus software, provided that updates remain current. However, if you use the Norton Anti-Virus provided by BU you will not have to pay for upgrades, etc. as long as you are a student at Bradley.

CAN I WAIT UNTIL MOVE-IN WEEKEND TO ‘SECURE’ MY COMPUTER?

We recommend that you set up your computer prior to move-in weekend. When you connect your computer up to our network and the security steps are not performed, you may be susceptible to viruses and spyware and may not meet the requirements to register your computer on our network.  You will also save a lot of time by performing the steps at home.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DON’T FOLLOW THE BU SECURITY RECOMMENDATIONS?

If inappropriate network activity is observed by our Network Engineers, your computer may be placed in Quarantine and you will be required to perform all of the security measures and have it verified at the HelpDesk prior to obtaining access to the network. Please read our Virus Protection Policy for more information.

WHAT IS THE COST FOR USING THE NETWORK?

There is no charge to access the network in the Residence Halls.

IF MY COMPUTER ‘BREAKS’ WHILE I’M AT BU, CAN SOMEONE FIX IT FOR ME?

The Technology HelpDesk provides level one support for student owned computers. However, hands-on support such as hardware repair is limited. Please see our Student Computer Support Policy for complete information.
