BUnetID

WHAT IS MY BUnetID?  Your BUnetID is your identification to register for Orientation and classes, access Library resources, log into lab computers, access BlackBoard, etc.

HOW DO I GET (activate) MY BUnetID?  With your invitation to attend the mandatory new student Orientation, you received an account activation letter which includes

You will be required to complete the account activation process in order to register for orientation on-line.     If you chose to register for your Orientation through the mail, it will still be necessary to complete the BUnetID activation process prior to attending your Orientation session.  During Orientation, you will use your BUnetID to register for your classes

foreWarn  provides the opportunity to sign-up for a text messaging notification in the event of an emergency on campus.

New students will experience grade holds until the foreWarn process is completed

B-Mail (student E- mail)

B-Mail is the official method of University communications for students.
You are responsible for all official correspondence received via your B-Mail account.
It is strongly suggested that you check this account on a regular basis.

B-Mail is a Google-based electronic mail client, providing more storage, improved organization features, and one-click chat.    When you activate your BUnetID, you will automatically be set up with a B-Mail account.  Your B-Mail address is your BUnetID@mail.bradley.edu (e.g. Elton John would be ejohn@mail.bradley.edu).

Access your B-Mail (student E-mail) at http://mail.bradley.edu.    You can manage your BUnetID password through the MyBU portal.   Visit the Technology HelpDesk website for more information on B-Mail.

BlackBoard

BlackBoard creates an effective learning environment through network-based learning and correspondence.  Your BlackBoard username is your BUnetID.  However, BlackBoard uses an independent password process so it will be necessary to change your BlackBoard password whenever you change your BUnetID one.

Following are instructions to set up your BlackBoard account (user name and password).  Please read all instructions carefully and click on the link below to get started:

The first time you access the BlackBoard login page . . .

blackboard
. . . type in your 'username' (your BUnetID) and select Forgot Password? (under password field).   The BlackBoard program will send an e-mail to your Bradley e-mail account with a link to set up your password.  Once you have initially set up your BlackBoard password, you will have access to all of it's features.

Set up my BlackBoard account now.

The Bradley University BlackBoard Website (http://blackboard.bradley.edu) offers complete instructions to maintain your account and access various services provided to you.

Bringing a computer to campus?

Purchase a computer

Most students bring their own computer to campus, but it is not required.   A public lab is available for your use in the Cullom-Davis Library, providing: laptop checkout, Windows & Macintosh desktops, printing, scanning, etc.   Visit the following website for Quick Guides to Buying a Student Laptop published by Yahoo!Tech

Bradley Campus Computer Sales has partnered with Dell and Apple to offer hardware discounts (up to 12% with a Dell purchase).   Visit our Campus Computer Sales Website (http://computersales.bradley.edu) for recommendations, helpful information and links to purchase your computer and discounted software online.

Responsible Computing

Protect your computer from viruses, spyware, compromised passwords, etc.  Responsible Computing steps can be completed before you move to campus (strongly recommended).  If you do not perform the Responsible Computing steps prior to your move to campus, you will be required to do so when you first connect your computer to the network.

Download FREE Symantec Norton Antivirus (save $$ and protect your computer at the same time).  Visit the Responsible Computing Website to secure your computer.

Telephone and Network information

Should I bring a phone?   Yes.  Bradley University does not provide phones in residence hall rooms.  If you bring a cordless phone, make sure it is 900Mhz.

Bradley University does not provide long distance telephone service.  We recommend using a long distance calling card or cell phone.

Cable TV?  Bradley does provide cable television service in the residence halls.  Be sure to bring a TV cable to hook up to the jack and don't forget your remote.
