Norton Antivirus for Macintosh

Addressing virus definition update failures

If a message is displayed on your Apple computer stating that your virus definitions are out of date or cannot be updated, you may need to install a newer version of Norton AntiVirus.

Check to see what version of Norton AntiVirus you have installed.
In your menu bar, you should see the Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate icon live update.
Click it and choose Symantec AntiVirus.
Choose Open Symantec AntiVirus.
In the window that opens, you will see your Product Version listed.

If you do not see the icon in your menu bar, go to the Applications folder on your hard drive.
Find the Symantec folder and open it.
Find Symantec AntiVirus and double click it to launch. Your Product Version will be displayed.

Check to see what version of the Mac OS is installed.
At the upper left corner of your menu bar, click on the Apple.
Select About This Mac.
Your current OS version will be displayed under the Apple logo.

Norton Antivirus 10.0 and 10.1 for Mac is compatible with OS 10.3x (Panther). If you are using OS 10.4x (Tiger) or 10.5x (Leopard), you should use Norton Antivirus 10.2 or greater.
